Any material having hardness higher than the hardness of the brake disc is considered to be an abrasive in friction formulations. By varying the ration of materials with high and low hardness in a friction formulation, abrasiveness can be tuned to the level required for the application.
Abrasiveness of th friction composite can be used to control friction level, disc wear and brake pad wear.
